I didn’t know whether to laugh it off or get really angry yesterday.

Every time we run one of our workload management training programme people tell us about their frustrations with their huge email volumes. In our programmes, when we explore what behaviours and culture we would like to build around Email management within the business, the curse of CC and BCC mails is always near the top of the hit list….

Members of one of my on-line networking groups, Ecademy, yesterday generated 29 totally unnecessary cc and bcc emails, sent to me and 447 other people. All pointless and useless. Naturally I have my Ecademy emails directed through Outlook Rules into my Ecademy folder and I only found them when running my 4D process on that mail box. I was amazed that people felt it was acceptable to ‘CC and BCC All’ in their rants about the original abuse/mistake email.

One of the replies I scanned, out of idle interest, read: FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE ALL OF YOU GET A LIFE AND STOP INCLUDING ME IN ALL YOUR PETTY NONSENSE. I AM SICK OF DELETING THIS OPINIONATED RUBBISH – <originator’s name> MADE A SIMPLE ERROR, GET OVER IT AND STOP WASTING ALL OUR TIMES HAVING TO DEAL WITH YOUR PETTINESS AND WASTE TIME DELETING THIS CR*P. PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR EMAILS ONCE AND FOR ALL …. and yes, it was sent to all!

It reminded me of an email I was pointed to a few years ago in a very large American Corporation. That email also was in block capitals and, in essence the sender was asking to be removed from a distribution list. Like the example above it was capitalised….. and sent to the Global address list! The business now employs over 40,000 people. The mind boggles!
